With so many advances in today’s technology, the health and wellness industry is seeing breakthroughs in how we care for our bodies.  These advances have allowed for men and women to have cosmetic procedures done in a matter of minutes using laser technology.  As a local expert on laser treatments, I will walk you through some of the different procedures that I perform on a regular basis at Radiance Day Spa in New Paltz.

When it comes to laser hair removal, up to date equipment can safely and effectively treat men and women of all skin types and tones and remove hair from all parts of the body including face, legs, underarms and back.  It can also treat sensitive areas like the bikini line, chest and nipples.

When treatments are performed, a hand piece on the laser cools and soothes, increasing patient comfort as it glides along your skin, where a mild pinching or stinging sensation may be experienced.  Treatments work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at time of treatment.  Three to seven days after treatment you may experience re-growth which is actually hairs being shed as a result of your treatment.  You should not wax or pluck your hair but you may shave. Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red or swollen, similar to a sunburn.  This usually lasts no more than a few hours.  In rare instances, bruising may occur.  You may return to normal activities and sunscreen is recommended on treated areas.  Most areas require three to six treatments, depending on your hair thickness, the area being treated, and your hair’s growth cycle.

Laser genesis skin therapy is an innovative way to promote vibrant and healthy looking skin in men and women.  You can have a more youthful appearance by treating these conditions that are typically associated with premature signs of aging such as excessive redness, large pores, uneven texture, and fine line wrinkles.  Laser genesis procedure has been scientifically proven to produce new collagen by gently heating the upper dermis.  You can expect to see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment without unwanted side effects. On average you may  require four to six treatments to achieve optimal results.

Laser genesis can treat the entire face and neck as well as recent scars that have occurred on other parts of the body.  A common condition in many people is a general appearance of facial redness or rosacea.  It is caused by dilated capillaries and the most commonly affected areas are the nose, forehead and cheeks.  Laser Genesis will gently and effectively treat this condition.

During the procedure you will feel a gentle warming of your skins surface and most people describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic.  You can immediately return to normal activities, but sunscreen is required if you go outdoors.  The end result is a creamier, healthier complexion as large pores reduce in size and minor imperfections are diminished.

Thanks to breakthroughs in laser vein therapy, men and women alike are making unsightly facial and leg veins a thing of the past.  Using the most advanced technology, lasers can safely and effectively treat a broad range of vessels from tiny spider veins to deep blue reticular veins and small facial veins on all skin tones.  Blood blisters can also be treated with todays advances.

At Radiance, our system delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel, which is later reabsorbed by your body.  Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skins surface, where it should be.

One or two treatments are sufficient, however the number of treatments needed depends on the number, color and size of the vessel being treated. During treatment, a stinging sensation is experienced as the pulses of energy are delivered, and following treatment, the pain in minimal to non-existent.  Minor swelling or bruising on the area treated will typically last 24 hours.  A tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks or months following treatment on larger veins.  It is recommended that you avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment.  Always use sunscreen on any treated areas exposed to the sun.
